HBI Energy

HBI Energy SAS (HBE) is a 50/50 joint-venture between Wilmar Oleo Pte Ltd, a trading company in Singapore and HBI. HBE’s brief is to market palm products into Europe focusing on the following applicants:

• Palm olein and palm oil as raw materials for biodiesel production
• Palm oil, palm stearin and other palm products for power generation
• Palm methyl ester (PME) for use as biodiesel

The EU’s objective of incorporating 5.75% biofuels into transport diesel usage by 2010 requires about 8 million hectares of land for oilseed production. At present the majority of the 7.5 mil hectares cultivated for oilseed production in Europe is used for refining vegetable oils for human consumption. In order to meet its biofuels objectives, as well as the projects in place for energy co-generation using vegetable oils, very large volumes of vegetable oils and methyl esters will have to be imported by the EU in future.

With palm oil being one of the world’s major vegetable oil sources for biodiesel and co-generation uses, HBE is ideally placed to meet European industry needs for these applications. Moreover our long experience in the biodiesel industry enables us to provide technical, marketing, financial and general consultation services to the industry.
